59th Annual Bowdon Sevens Tournament

A few pics of the semi-final

In a finale to an excellent season, Lymm Rugby Club won the Bowdon 7’s tournament for the third time on Sunday, defeating North One rivals, Altrincham Kersal 38 – 22 in the final. They last won the competition two seasons ago, when David Strettle turned out for his former club. It was obviously the catalyst for greater things, as in the following season, he went on to play for the England 7’s squad and ultimately the full England XV. David was there on Sunday to cheer on his former team mates before he leaves for South Africa with the England squad.

Lymm entered two teams into the competition with the ‘B’ team reaching the semi-final of the plate competition. The two Lymm squads were a blend of Colts and younger 1st XV stars, with the added sprinkling of experienced campaigners. This was a most appropriate squad, which reflected the success of Colts Rugby at Lymm over the last two seasons and the fact that nearly every player had come up through the Lymm Mini & Junior Section.

Adam Fletcher will continue as skipper next season and was chosen as player’s ‘Player of the Season’ at the clubs recent annual dinner. Jake Emmitt was given the ‘Young Player of the Year’ award.

Squad: Chris Kinsey, Andy Williamson, Jake Emmitt, David Williamson, Sean Williams, Joe Knowles, Adam Fletcher (Capt), Ollie Higginson, Dan Naylor, Jack Johnston, Paul Thatcher, Jake Ashall
