Lymm 2s 63 V Chorley 1s 19
Lymm 2s had an enjoyable day in the sun with a pre season friendly over Chorley.
Using rolling subs to the full the home team’s superior fitness told as they notched a 10 try mauling. However all but 3 of these were in the last 30 mins!
Pre season is all about fitness and trying to get to match sharpness. The Lymm second string, fielding several players with aims of playing for the 1s, had pace in the backs and control in the forwards.
The season starts on 5 Sept and skipper Andy Norcott will feel the league championship is a realistic target.
“We finished the season in fine style with 9 wins out of 10 and we have a stronger squad, I think. Promotion could be a possibility and we have real strength in depth with the younger lads coming through” said Norcott.
Lymm 1s 64 V Mold 1s 19
Following the impressive curtain raiser the first team continued their impressive pre season with an easy win over a team at the same level in the rugby pyramid, albeit in Wales.
Choosing from almost a full squad head coach Kinsey was able to give Joe Knowles and Alex Gluth home debuts and called up Elliot Johnstone, James Boaden and Marcus Knox from colts rugby.
The visitors were better than the scoreline but were simply blown away by the first 8 mins where Swetman, Johnstone and Griffiths went over. A mixture of comedy defence and real adventure and pace tearing apart the visitors.
Griffiths went over again, after a 60 metre dash and at least 3 dummies before Mold scored to make it 24 -7 after 30 mins. Fletcher, looking sharp, after a season of several injuries followed up a Johnstone chip and chase and then intercepted on his own 5 metre line to allow Knowles to score his second.
38 -7
Griffiths notched his hat trick at the restart but sloppy defence allowed Mold to score again, twice 43-19.
Knowles ,fizzing with pace and threat all afternoon went over twice to collect his hat track and youngster Sam Mullarkey finished a fine forwards move to make it 64-19.
Lymm have a try tally of 18 tries in 3 pre season tries. The hard pitches aiding their movement and pace in the backs.
Next Sunday they entertain Caldy in the Cheshire Cup. This will be an altogether different challenge.
