lymm make county final
Lymm reached the final of the Cheshire Cup for the first time since 1988 with a hard fought win against Division 3 side Birkenhead Park. Credit must go to both sides as they served up a pulsating game in soggy conditions.
The desire to win was clear to be seen. Winger Butler returned from injury and replaced speedster Fletcher who joined the 6 others on the bench. Coach Kinsey kept faith with the team from last week to see if they could cope with opposition from a higher level.
Dave Williamson, in scintillating form at 13, scored both tries and Knowles converted. Man of the match Williamson stated what many clearly feel “if we can play like that every week we will win this league and compete well in the higher league next season”. Assistant Coach Pickles praised the lads” a fantastic performance from all the lads, months of training and hard work paid off with our best performance of the season.
However the standard has been set!” Kinsey echoed these thoughts.” We demonstrated that we can compete at the next level. This game was a real benchmark in measuring our progress” The final will be on Easter Monday, on neutral ground, against Sale Jets , Sale’s formidable academy team.

Lymm safely negotiated this first round tie to earn a second round home encounter against Fylde 2nd XV on January 2nd 2010.
The pack laid the platform for 3 first half tries as the Lymm backs played open flowing rugby. Tom Baker and Pat Roberts were an outstanding half back partnership and with Man of the Match, Luke Emmitt’s boot keeping the hosts on the front foot, James Field and Ben Hinton scored further tries in the second half. Leigh were rewarded with a late consolation try. Paul Rathbone shone in the back row and veterans Phil Griffiths and Peter Millachip added value to a good all round team performance.
