Northwich 2nd XV 24 – 38 Lymm 3rd XV
Lymm 3s Finally Convert Chances

Overnight frost disrupted rugby at Lymm last Saturday.

Lymm’s 1st XV’s trip to Vale of Lune was called off mid morning but there was hope that the 2nd’s match, at home to Preston Grasshoppers 3rds, would go ahead. Sadly the sunshine failed to impact totally on the deep frost and with both teams changed and ready to start, it was decided not to play.

Lymm 3rd XV had better luck at Northwich and pulled off a remarkable victory against the league leaders.

For only the second time this season, Lymm 3s finally converted potential into points and a victory. A solid defensive display laid the platform for victory against a strong Northwich side that had only lost one g0.9ame before this encounter. Despite not seeing much possession and going behind to an early try, good work from the Lymm forwards allowed the impressive Craig Woolvine at 10, playing in his 5th position this season, to release the Lymm backs into try scoring positions.

Two tries from Giles Dugdale, on his senior debut and Matt Connolly gave Lymm a 21-5 half time lead, Tom Wood converting every try. An interception try from Dugdale completed his hat-trick, followed quickly by a kick and chase which resulted in a 4th try for the winger. A final Wood penalty gave Lymm some breathing space and despite a late Northwich rally, Lymm held on for a deserved win

Captain David Coon reported “The 3s have been threatening a result like this for some time now and we hope to take this momentum into the next match. The young squad did Lymm proud today”
