re the jubilee ball
(Non)PC has received some thank you's from some of our old friends -
Hi Pete -- just a quick mail to thank you and all involved in organising the 50th Ball -- it was a great night and I was tempted to stay a lot longer -- but these days I am a bit more wary of the effects of too much plonk and try to cool it !
Thought you may like the attached -- it's a copy of the Tour Book we put together when we brought the team over from Canada in '75 -- we played our first game against a Lymm 15 -- the players listed occupations are interesting, especially the tour treasurer -- he only had one arm ! My shirt number was 26.
Please pass on my thanks to all, cheers, John Grensinger.

Hello Peter,
I was quite busy last week, so I'm just a tad late sending you a quick note to say "Thank You" for organising our tables etc.
Celia and I had a really great time, and I was delighted to meet folks like Roger Roberts and Jim Hutchings whom I haven't seen for about forty five years!
It's really nice to know that the club is still going strong after all these years; it never occurred to me that I was going to be a part of all this when I attended that first meeting in the Spread Eagle.
If I don't see you before, I'll see you next January!
All the Best,
Honge
Good Evening PC,
Now that I have sobered up and the headache has cleared I want to thank you for organising our party at the ball. Babs and I had a great time and it was just super to meet with so many friends that we have not seen for many years. At our age there is also inevitably the sad side of remembering absent friends but the memories are of good times and that is how they would wish it to be.
Once again thanks for a great evening.
Regards,
John Gregory
Dear Peter, Thank you for all you did to make the Week~end a memorable one. I,m sure you had lots of other things on your plate without looking after Helen and I. I thoroughly enjoyed it although I found it all a bit surreal Everything that I was personaly injvolved in happened 50 years ago it was quite weard. However I was absolutely impressed by the shear life and buzz about the place although I didn't actually know or even recognise many people. I walked around the new pitches and was extremely impressed. The Club is going places. On a different note I went to see Martin Hampson on the Sunday morning and had a wonderful 2 hours with him. He genuinely did not know about the event, he does not have a computer And he has thrown his mobile phone in the canal . He is a bit of an eccentric but I think the club should make an effort, just to make sure he knows about any events. He was,not upset about it but I kinda got the idea that that he would have liked to be there . Incidentally, if you are ever down this way or would like to visit us w e would be delighted to see you. Cheers for now and many thanks for everything. Roger.
The last beech?
Today the Beech tree at the far end of the first team pitch was cut down as authorised by Warrington BC due to the age and potential danger caused, had it remained in situ. Sad but necessary.

See more pictures of the cutting down here.

PAST PLAYERS
Following the set back of a 20 - 6 defeat at home to Burnage last Saturday, our first team still need two wins from their last four games to ensure we finish top of the league.
Three of these last four games are at home and are as follows:-
Saturday March 27, Leigh
Saturday April 3, Northwich
Saturday April 10, Liverpool St Helens
All the games kick off at 3pm.
It would be great to see as many Past Players as possible at these games supporting the team in their final push for the league title and also enjoying a few drinks after the game with fellow Past Players.
Our final league game is away to Sandbach on Saturday April 17. Kick off is at 3pm.
It promises to be a tense but exciting last few weeks of the season.
In addition, we are hosting the Cheshire Cup Final on Wednesday April 28, when we play Sale Jets, kick off 7pm. Again it would be good to see Past Players at the game, especially those of you who have played in previous Cheshire Cup Finals, to see if we can pull off a major giant killing act!

Tony

rfu Presidents XV Recognition Awards 2010
Andy Leach has received the following email from the RFU
Thank you for your application to the 2010 President’s XV Recognition Awards. The Panel are delighted to announce that Lymm RFC has been chosen as the winner in the ‘Fundraising’ category and have therefore been awarded a cheque for £500 for your club. Your other nomination for ‘Seal of Approval Club of the Year’ was unsuccessful in this instance. However, Lymm RFC have also been selected as runner up in the ‘Better Facilities’ category (on behalf of Ted Mitchell’s nomination); therefore also receiving a trophy and £100 prize money.
As a category winner in the President’s XV, we would like one of the Panel members to visit your club to present you with your cheque for £600 and two trophies to celebrate the achievements of your club. The RFU would like to offer £100 towards the cost of organising a presentation event for all club members, as well as local dignitaries, stakeholders and press, to attend. If you could email me with three suitable dates/events that you may have in your club’s end-of-season calendar where a presentation could be made, we will start organising the arrangements with you.
Your outstanding project will be used as a case study in a ‘Models of Good Practice’ booklet to be published and distributed to the game. We will be in touch shortly to confirm the details of your project that we will include, ideally with some photographs, in our write up.
Once again, we would like to thank you for entering the scheme and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Congratulations again! I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards, Carly
We just keep winning!!

a presidents thanks
"I would like to thank all our past players who attended the
launch of our Past Players Association last Saturday. The day was
a great success and a good start to what will hopefully have been
the first of many functions and events involving our past
players.
Unfortunately the result of the game didn't go to plan, but at
least it was an entertaining match, with more rugby being played
in five minutes than the whole of that shambles in Italy
yesterday!! What do these guys do all week?
Please pass on the message to all your fellow ex players that we
now have an active and up and running Past Players Association
with a number of events already planned for the rest of this
year.
Any past player who has not already been in touch can e-mail me
their e-mail address at
ajwright13@ntlworld.com
Don't forget our next Past Players Saturday is on 10 April when
we entertain Liverpool St Helens.
Thank you all once again for your great support."

a letter from australia
Dear Cameron,
Sorry for the belated response to your e-mail.
After wonderful day with you and your colleagues at the Lymm Rugby Football Club on Wednesday, December 10, I was off early the next day to Santiago, Chile. .jpg)
First, congratulation on Lymm’s recent win and leading the table by 6 point – good luck for the remainder of the season.
As you may be aware, I had the pleasure of following my son, Gregory, his Australian Schools Rugby team mates, management and coaches for the first four (4) games of their seven-game tour of Ireland, North Wales and England.
I had wonderful time at the Dublin, Cork and Colwyn Bay North Wales games but the highlight by far was the Australian Schools versus North England Academy XV game at the now legendary Lymm RFC.
It was a very good game of rugby but more importantly, a quintessential rugby experience between two national teams, their coaches and management and proud supporters was created by the Lymm RFC and its hard working, proud members and management. Please pass on a big, heartfelt thank you to all your members in particular those that I met during the preparation for the game, at the game and during the post match activities.
Although I previously provided you with a disk containing my game photos, for ease, please feel free to publish or pass on the following link to my web gallery, which contains all of the pictures.
Australian Schools' Rugby Union vs. North England Academy XV (here).
In closing, thank you again for the wonderful experience and the flawless hospitality you showed toward me, my son, his team mates, team management, coaches and supporters and I wish you and your all colleagues at the Lymm RFC a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2010.
Warm regards,
Carl Peterson
chairman's chat for christmas 2009
A very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year to all at Lymm Rugby Club.
I want to sincerely thank all the volunteers who have contributed to the success of the club in all sections Squash, Tennis, Rugby League, Hockey and Rugby Union. The efforts of volunteers ensured we played sport when the weather presented some serious challenges.
A quick list of some of the key volunteer effort:
All teams receive support from qualified coaches. Thanks to everyone who invests time and energy to ensure our members get the very best coaching.
Lymm Rugby Club events have provided money for charities, club development and the enjoyment of many people (the panto, the ball, the fireworks, Xmas party, the golf day and the very successful beer festival organised by the M&J section).
New pitches will be in use next year as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations.
Funding for new projects is underway but we need more help and money to complete the pitch development and provide full access for disabled members and visitors.
Our first international match was a rousing success thanks to many people but special thanks to Jim Knowles for managing everything outside and for Mal Pritchard for ensuring those inside had a great day.
The panto has yet again provided a huge contribution and I wish to thank each and every person who helps with this major event. It takes a lot of time and commitment from people and that is what makes this club and the panto so special.
2010 bring the full celebrations of our 50th anniversary and we look forward to the launch of the Past Players Association in February. This will be followed by a club tour, a summer ball, the pitch opening, a sporstman’s dinner and other celebrations. If you have any ideas on how to celebrate the jubilee of Lymm RFC please let me know.
The club needs more volunteers if we are to continue the high standard of sport and enjoyment. Please get involved and drop me a line if you wish to do so. Finally thanks again to one and all for helping to make Lymm Rugby Club the best social, amateur, sports club in the universe.
-Danny.
Disability tag rugby
We are currently engaged in looking into Lymm RFC starting a Learning Disabilities Tag Rugby (LDTR)Team.
LDTR involves children/young adults with learning disabilities, their families, and friends in a safe non-contact version of the game.
We hope to be operational by the spring and would be keen to hear from members of the club who might wish to get involved at whatever level (coaches, parents, players, admin etc.)
We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone interested in sponsoring the team, or able to help with group transport - there are a few teams in the country but they are well spread out!

Further to the email you received following the match against Wales at Colwyn Bay, I would just like to say, on behalf of Lymm RFC, what a pleasure it was to host your players, coaches and parents for their recent match against Northern (Regional?) Academies.
This match was a big deal for Lymm RFC, being an amateur, community-oriented club based in a Cheshire village with a population of c11,000. Thankfully the weather was great (best day for over a month) and the pitch in great condition (we had cared for it lovingly throughout the recent deluges).
Your entourage was fantastic, with players prepared to sign autographs for our young players and your parents with us in the bar until the bitter end. For our U10s, U11s and U13s who formed the guard of honour and acted as ball boys this was a day they will remember for a long time.
The players will be billeted with families in Lymm for 5 nights, hopefully they will reflect on this as being a highlight of their tour.
We wish your players every success on the remainder of the tour and in their future rugby careers. Hopefully, when they return home it won’t just be with a big bag of Christmas presents for their families, but also with friendships and memories that will endure!
Regards,
Andy Leach

AND THE REPLY TO ANDY....
Andy,
Thank you very much for your kind note.
While the boys were disappointed at the result of the match it is nice to hear words like this.

President wrighty's message
Thanks to everybody who got involved in making Wednesday just such a great day for the club.
There are too many names to mention but everyone involved played an important part in making the day a success.
It was a great team effort.
The comments I received from the Australian officials and those from the RFU, Northern RFU and Cheshire RFU were very complimentary about the club, the organisation and the hospitality.
Thanks again,
Tony

The international
A fabulous day for LymmRFC, enjoyed by all. Late in the afternoon an Aussie said this had been easily the best day of the tour.
A big compliment for Lymm, well done everyone concerned, especially Mally for his fund raising lunch and Jim for his sterling efforts in preparing the ground and premises and his teams organisation.

lymmrfc logo
A 50th anniversary logo has been designed as per the one in the heading of this page. It is also used on the programme inserts and is on all the new kit and leisurewear used by the teams and available through Raging Bull via the link above.
This is now the official club logo until further notice.
All new documentation etc that requires a logo must use this logo. Any other logos should not be used in the future. This is an attempt to put forward a unified image for the club, both to our members, our sponsors and to the world at large. Anyone requiring a copy of the logo should email Cameron Haworth at CameronsAddress@aol.com.

This was the day the 1st XV gave what they have been promising all season. Pictures here.

a word from the head gardener
Gentlemen,
The whole area is now seeded and already there are signs of germination. The caravans have gone, most/all of the machinery will be gone by Saturday.
The new land is fenced from the mast, then goes around the canopy of the beech tree and then across to the beech trees at the end of the wall.
No matter how important anybody thinks they are I believe we all should resist the temptation to check on progress by breaching the fence and should deter others from doing it.
Children in particular need to be kept out. Abandoned tree canes and maize cobs are evidence of unsupervised children's activities on our new land and adjacent field. Safety and damage prevention offer sufficient reasons.
Ball recovery is an obvious exception for which I have a plan which I will discuss with the relevant people.
It looks fantastic, let us all take pride in this wonderful asset and guard it jealously.
PS.The car park has grown by 40%. Go West and take a look.
Celibrate all this and a win on Saturday, cheers.
Jim.

some M&J news
Lymm Players Successful in Schools Tens Tournament
Schools featuring Lymm RFC players dominated a Schools 10s tournament on Sunday contested by 12 selected Schools from around the north. The three schools, hosts St Ambrose, Manchester Grammar and Lymm High, were the respective winners of the three qualifying groups. St Ambrose was unlucky to lose its semi-final by an odd conversion to MGS which then met Lymm HS in the final. Tied 5-5 at the end of normal time, the match was decided late into extra time when MGS squeezed over in the corner. Congratulations to Zak Preston & Mat O’Hara of St Ambrose, George Boaden, Ismaeel Hussain, Luke Jackson, Jake Lester, Cameron McMaster, Greg Robertson, Nathan Strong, Jack Worton & Tim Young of Lymm HS and Sam Ward of MGS on their and their schools’ success.
U16 Tim Young wins Cheshire Selection
Second row Tim Young has been selected for the Cheshire U16 2009-2010 squad. This is a particularly significant achievement as the squad has been reduced in number to only 30 this year from the usual 50. Tim’s selection is a well deserved reward for the enormous effort he has put in to improve his fitness and conditioning.

land update - 16th September
The RFU agronomist, John Hacker, visited the site today and confirms completion of the following for the first 2 pitches by the end of this week:
• Land levelling and top soil layer
• All drains laid on pitches
• Seeding of pitches
This is fantastic PROGRESS despite the poor weather and we must thank our contractors, John Greasley Ltd for their efforts to keep the work on schedule for completion of phase1 by the end of October.
The purchase of the land was made possible by a substantial donation from Frank Maycock.
On Saturday Frank will unveil the Frank Maycock Patron’s Board to thank any Patron making a donation to the club in excess of £1,000. Donations receive tax relief and allow the club to reclaim money from the tax man.
If you want to make a donation, please ask at the bar for a form or email me.
Come and see the progress this Saturday for the first home game of the season against New Brighton.
After 2 hard fought wins the Captain and coaches believe there is much more to come from this team.
PLEASE come and support your club and see the unveiling of the Frank Maycock Patron’s Board.

past players association - a word from the president
At the present time the Rugby Club provides rugby facilities for all ages, from the youngest at mini level to those who wish to extend their rugby career through the Vets team. However, once players have finished their careers, either because of injury, or just old age, the majority of them drift away from the club. I would therefore like to propose that we start a Past Players Association.
Although we have an annual past players re-union,
I feel we should have something a little more formal, which would give former players a little more sense of belonging to the club for which they once played. This initiative fits in with our Chairman's request for more people to get involved in the club, and with our 50th year approaching I think it would be an ideal time to contact our past players and get them back to the club.
I would therefore welcome any ideas on how a Past Players Association would operate, e.g. what would past players expect, what could we offer them as an incentive to join the association, what sort of events would we run etc etc.
I would welcome any views and comments you may have. All will be considered. Contact me at:

Lymm RL encore
An enthralling game of rugby league watched by a sizable crowd at Crouchley Lane saw Lymm progress to the North West Premier Grand Final with a nail-bighting extra time victory over a plucky Wigan Riversiders side. With both sides locked at 14 points each and with moments remaining, Lymm believed they had done enough to win the game in regular time when Pete Leonard banged over a field goal. However a Wigan player touched the ball in the flight and although it went over the sticks, the referee ruled the effort out. The decision resulted in the tie heading into extra time where two Lymm tries in the first period from Carl Lloyd and Dane Evans sent the Crouchley Lane side through to the final. In an exhilarating game in which both sides left nothing to chance it was Wigan who scored first as Greg Brown crossed out wide and then converted his own effort. Lloyd responded for Lymm and Leonard goaled to square the game up, both teams then exchanged penalty goals and went in at the break all square. It was a similarly tight affair in the second-half with Simon Atherton giving Wigan the lead only to have it pegged back when Mick Cadd charged over. And so at 14 each a grand stand finish ensued and as it was with Lloyd, his second and Evans both crossing it was Lymm who were left to celebrate a most historic of victories. The final will be played at Crouchley Lane against New Broughton Rangers on Saturday 15th august with a 2.30pm kick off.

Rfu awards lymmrfc funding for new pitch development
Negotiations with the RFU have now been finalised and the committee can now confirm their intention to award Lymm RFC a grant to level, install drains and lay new pitches. Ted Mitchell, RFU facilities manager for the North West, will attend a final RFU facilities meeting this week to obtain approval for the funding proposal. We will receive an award letter to confirm the award.

This funding grant will NOT cover the total cost and we all have to step up our fund raising activities to find the balance of the project costs - £50,000. The plan to do this includes: events, e.g. Autumn Ball at Mere Golf Club; sponsorship opportunities; grant awards; Maycock Life Patrons etc. Everyone in the club can help in some way, please ask to get involved – VOLUNTEERS WELCOME. A very generous donation allowed the club to buy the land and we now have loans of £175,000 to pay. The club urgently needs sponsors and patrons to help pay for their share of the land development. If you can help please leave contact details at the club or email:
Danny McNicholl danbo@3peaks.net
John Cartwright john.cartwright@liverpool.ac.uk
Andy Leach andywleach@aol.com
Work on the land will commence shortly to take advantage of the summer months and early growing period in September/October. The plan is to have the pitches ready for our Jubilee Year in the 2010/2011 season.
Further details will be communicated via the web site as the project develops.

your club needs help - jubilee celebrations
As most of you know 2009/10 sees the 50th anniversary of the founding of LymmRFC (see Club history on this website for more details).
This Jubilee anniversary is an excellent opportunity to increase the profile of our club, to increase membership and to increase our standing in the village.
The Executive of the Club need people to manage or help with planning a range of activities to celebrate the Jubilee and raise funds for major club projects e.g. pitch levelling, kitchen refurbishment and changing room upgrades. We would particularly like to hear from someone prepared to take on the overall management and coordination of this project, but helpers would also be welcome as the lifeblood of a community club are the volunteers who make it work.
Members from all sections of the club are encouraged to contact our Chairman, Danny McNicholl at DANBO@3PEAKS.NET to discuss your ideas and help further the Jubilee Celebrations.

Lymm rl
Another good win for Lymm RL yesterday with the 26 - 16 defeat of Wigan Riversiders. A good matched game with Lymm coming good in the second half after trailing12 - 6 at half time. Next week, maybe Friday night or Saturday to be confirmed, we have a home tie with Runcorn. Following the failure of both Widnes and Rhyl to put teams forward for what would have been our home games, what should have been the away games will now be played at Lymm. Yesterday's win and Widnes's lost to Blackpool now puts us on equal points to Widnes but with a inferior points difference - for now!!

jenny harrop - a message from p.cornelia
I have received this message from Jenny Harrop. If you remember, dedicated to David's memory, she ran the London Marathon to raise money for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). She now plans to climb Kilimanjaro to raise more money for CRY. As a doctor, she is concerned about young people like David with unknown heart defects. CRY was set up to provide screening for people between the ages 14-35, see their website ecg@c-r-y.org.uk
As you can see from her message, she wishes to arrange for the mobile unit to come to the North and arrange for our young players and family members to be screened. She would welcome donations via her sponsorship website www.justgiving.com/jenharrop

stars in their eyes
A big thank you to all participants and attendees at "Stars in Their Eyes" at the club last Friday. The event was a huge success with "Pond Life" running out as the eventual winners. They were hard pushed all the way by Take Fat who also put in a fantastic performance with some memorable singing and fancy footwork - Mally even managed to stay on the stage this year but failed to find his missing underpants!

The totally impartial head judge "Simon Bowel" felt drawn towards Pond Life and was moved by the hysteria they created - predominantly by the female section of the audience. He was heard to comment, "age is on their side and we need new young talent for the annual Panto - perhaps it is time for me to retire my studded thong"!
Memorable performances were also delivered by Duncan Selby, Ali Jones, Ash, Hesky, Floss, Lauren Kelly, Nigel Worton, Maggie, Steve Rowe and Derek Musson.
On a serious note, the commitment and support of the participants and attendees helped to raise in excess of £1,800 towards the Lymm Grass Roots Sports appeal - Thank You to all - this is a fantastic result!!!!

Dave Strettle, from Rugby 1st 25/5/09

Strettle crosses fingers over fitness. Having overcome a hat-trick of metatarsal injuries - all to his left foot - Strettle missed Harlequins' march to the Guinness Premiership play-offs with an ankle problem. Back in the treatment room yet again, it was the latest blow to a player who has been restricted to six caps since making an impressive debut against Ireland in 2007. Injury prevented him from featuring in the World Cup two years ago and two RBS 6 Nations but he is ready to make his presence felt against the Barbarians and Argentina this summer. 'It's been a season of vast frustration, like last season. Sometimes I do feel cursed,' said the 25-year-old. 'The second time I injured the metatarsal I was upset, the third time it was more disbelief.
'If it hadn't been for (Harlequins director of rugby) Dean Richards, who spoke to me about when he missed a season with a shoulder injury, it would have been harder. All players go through these spells.'Every player expects to get injured but the biggest shame for me is that when I've missed things it's been big - a World Cup, Six Nations, autumn internationals and Quins doing the double over Stade Francais.
'I hope I've had more than my share now. You just have to get on with it.
'When I started playing for England it wasn't so difficult to deal with the injuries because there weren't many boys at Quins playing for them as well so if I missed a game I wasn't constantly reminded of it. 'Now there are guys like Danny Care and Ugo Monye playing for England, too. When they go away it's like a reminder what you're missing out on.'England name their team to face the Barbarians on Wednesday and Strettle hopes to be involved after returning to training last week.
'I had my first training session last Wednesday after four weeks of being kept off my feet,' he said. 'It was 90 minutes of full contact and that's what I needed - it felt like a slap in the face.'

Twickenham - lymm and leicester both win!
Lymm U12 have added tournament success at Twickenham to their impressive record in 2008/9. In the semi-final Lymm beat Wimbourne from Dorset by one try to nil where, despite having the minority of possession, Lymm looked comfortable in defence and always threatened with the ball in hand. In the end, a first half try by Alex Mitchell proved to be the decisive score. The final pitted Lymm against Ripon, the current Yorkshire champions, who had won through in a drawn semi-final with Barnstaple by virtue of a try scored on the last play of the match. Lymm and Ripon knew each other well, having already met in the group stages of the tournament played over Easter weekend. Lymm had come out on top two tries to nil in that encounter, but recognised that Ripon, who otherwise had enjoyed an unbeaten season, would be tough opponents. So with nerves jangling for the parents and supporters camped in the East Stand, the match started with Ripon applying the early pressure. Again though, the Lymm defence stood firm and when the tide of possession began to flow Lymm's way the dynamics changed noticeably and decisively. With pace, great understanding (these lads have been playing together for years!) and a rock solid defence Ripon were on the back foot and a try just before half-time to Alexander Mansfield-Hickman was just dessert for Lymm's efforts. The second half was played almost entirely in the Ripon half as Lymm pushed for a second try to close the match down. Whilst this didn't come, the final whistle did and Lymm were champions at Twickenham, receiving their trophy from Gareth Chilcot. A great day and a fantastic experience for the boys. Not sure why there wasn't a welcoming party waiting when the coach arrived back at Beechwood at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning though! - Andy L.

A message from Rick condo
My sincere thanks to all the members, players and especially the bar team for their concern and overwhelming offers of assistance for me and my family during my weekend of incapacity. It is vastly reassuring to know that we all have a caring and supportive extended family that IS the essence of the Lymm Rugby (Hockey, Squash, Tennis and Weights) Club. Your well wishes have greatly eased my trauma and discomfort.
Yours truly - Rick
something to gladden your hearts over the bank holiday
Andy Leach received the following email -
Hi Andy
I was the Referee at the Rochdale Juniors tournament on Sunday when your U12's won the competition by beating a very good Bury team in the final. The reason for my mail is to commend the skill levels, attitude and behaviour of your team who played some absolutely breathtaking rugby in the final and made a good team look very average indeed. In addition to their skill level, their conduct, behaviour and enthusiastic approach was a real credit to your coaches, their parents and Lymm Rugby Club as a whole. You should be very proud of what you have achieved here.
It was a real pleasure to referee the final, I just hope I'm around long enough to see these bright young sparks playing at senior level. The prospects for your club certainly look rosy if you can retain this talented bunch of players.
Best wishes in rugby

rubbish!!!!
The amount of detritus, bandages, bottles, food containers etc littering the Beechwood premises is a disgrace.
Why do players feel the need to dispense with bandages the minute the game is over and throw them down for someone else to pick up?
It should be every members responsibilty to police this problem.
A litter tax to members subs might sharpen the focus, but perhaps a bit too right wing in veiw of the recession!!

Kevin Utterson, ex Scottish intenational, of the host club presented the cup to Lymm captain Morgan Broadbent. With 30 tries scored and playing with some style the gathered crowd gave a terrific ovation to our players as they lifted the trophy infront of the Poynder Park main stand.
The host club said that Borders rugby were very impressed by the Lymm team. 'That really is some team you have there' Kelso club officials commented with 'defence' and 'keeping the ball alive' singled out as outstanding aspects of our play.
Needless to say it was a very happy and song filled team bus that it made its way back across the scottish border.

Nearer to home, our U12s were victorious in the Macclesfield Tournament, beating off the challenges from strong teams from Cheshire, Lancashire and North Wales. A special thanks to all the mothers who chose to spend Mothers' Day cheering from the touchline!
Our U14s hosted a triangular fixture at Crouchley Lane with Sandbach and a touring team from Marlow. Hopefully, their victories in these fixtures bode well for their forthcoming Cheshire Cup semi-final.

Cheshire cup here we come!
With our U13s victory 17-0 at Stockport in their delayed Cheshire Cup Quarter Final last Sunday, we now have every team from U13s to Senior Colts inclusive (that's 6 age groups!) through to the Cheshire Cup Semi-Finals. Quite an achievement! Especially so as we are the only Club in Cheshire to have achieved this in the current season. A great effort from all our coaches and players I think you will agree. AL.

Your intrepid reporter was, today, witness to a horrendous act of self-flagellation in the Wallasey Clubhouse after the game. The conversation, reported verbatim below, went as follows -

an interesting photo sequence
Here is a photo sequence leading up to the first try by Warren against Altrincham Kersal. Unfortuneately the battery failed before Warren touched down. Note the times on the pictures, taken from my cameras data. The whole sequence lasted only 23 seconds, but it certainly got the crowd fired up.
IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SEQUENCE THERE IS A 10 SECOND GAP BETWEEN KINSEY AND SWETMAN. IN THIS TIME APPARENTLY TUCKER MADE A SUPERB MOVE.
NOT HAVING THE ABILITY TO CHANGE FROM TELEPHOTO TO WIDE ANGLE AND BACK IN 10 SECONDS, I MISSED THIS MOVE. SORRY TUCKER.

youth section success
A great performance from Lymm's youth section has seen all the junior teams progressing to the Cheshire Cup semifinals! The U16s trounced Marple 48-0, the U15s came out on top in a tight match against last year's winners Sandbach 10-8, and the U14s had already beaten Ashton on Mersey 38-5. Unfortunately the U13s game at Stockport was called off.
The future's bright in green, black and white.
The U15s will now play Anselmians for a place in the final.
